Gerhard took me on a trip to see some of Namaqualand and the Cederberg Mountains in August 2007.  We loaded a ton of stuff and ourselves onto his 200cc Suzuki semi-off-road motorbike.  It was our very first trip on a bike, and we learned a heck of a lot.  The biggest lesson was to keep the daily distances short as our bums were very sore at the end of each day.  We overdid the distances on this trip, but we are much better prepared for the next one.  At the end of this weekend, Gerhard proposed to me even though I was grumpy every evening.  I guess that's what you call "true love"! ☺  And we're planning to finally tie the knot 11 months later.  (Click the left and right arrows to see all the photos.)

Man, can you believe we had all this gear plus the two of us on this small bike?!

After arriving at our first camp spot in the dark, we woke up to a beautiful view of the Atlantic the next morning.

A wire got stuck in the chain and our rear tire. Luckily, Gerhard was able to get it out before it did any damage.

We had to cross a river during the trip: I chose to walk through the thigh-deep water while Gerhard drove the bike through alone.

This beautiful waterfall is just outside Nieuwoudtville, a quaint little town to visit during flower season.

Moedverloor was probably the most beautiful area we saw in Namaqualand.

Gerhard couldn't resist taking pictures of the flowers there.

Even the caterpillars boast exquisite colours.

We spent our last night camping at Driehook in the Cederberg Mountains.

I don't often see snow in this country, but it was definitely cold enough for snow on the mountaintops!

The back roads we traveled were quiet and serene. We were almost a little sad to be heading back home.
